The route

Dogna Crossing 25

Dogna Crossing 25 is a truly distinctive race, in the heart of the Julian Alps between Val Dogna and Val Saisera: it could be almost a road race, or an extreme trail entirely on snow — it depends on the winter you find.

The start is in the centre of Dogna, easily reached by car or by bus, with a shuttle included both ways. The main feature of the course is a stretch of almost 16 kilometres, with around 1,000 metres of ascent, which in summer is a paved road: depending on the winter it can be entirely covered in snow and packed by snowmobile — a wide, scenic track — or, in low-snow years, covered in snow only for the last 6-7 kilometres.

Once the road ends you join a forest track, also packed by snowmobile, over continuous ups and downs, as far as Rifugio Grego; from there you descend into Val Saisera to the finish at Kile Alpine Resort.

You cross two valleys in a hushed, unspoilt landscape: no ski slopes, no winter tourism — just nature and snow, at the foot of Montasio, with views towards Mangart and Monte Lussari.

A different approach

Cutoffs and maximum times are also designed with fast hiking in mind: here, the journey counts as much as the clock. Less support along the course, more self-sufficiency required — it's a choice, not a shortcoming.

The Race Hub

Race Hub · Kile Alpine Resort

Via Saisera 65, Malborghetto-Valbruna (UD): the logistical heart of the Alpe Adria Ultra Trail, deep in Val Saisera.

The Race Hub is in Val Saisera, not in the centre of Valbruna village: right in the forest, in true trail spirit.

Event parking is free, outside the resort, about 150 metres away: follow signs P3, P4, P5 and P6 — P6 is the closest, P1 and P2 are further away. Motorhomes and vans use the same car park as cars.

On the valley road, the local cooperative's private checkpoint is confirmed again for 2027 (hours and prices to be finalised): it's a service separate from the organisation — event parking stays free.
