The route

Montasio 55

Montasio 55 is a distinctive race, designed to test runners' ability to manage their energy over the entire distance: 54.89 kilometres and 3,892 metres of ascent between the Jôf di Montasio and Monte Santo di Lussari.

The start from Dogna, at 6:30 am, and the first stretch coincide with the Jôf Trail course: a relatively short section but marked by a very intense, demanding initial climb.

Once this stretch ends, the route continues along the Lussari course, with a fast initial part and a runnable climb that lets you reach the summit while still running: those who manage their energy well in the first part will find this climb extremely fast, making up time lost during the morning's more technical ascent.

From the summit a steep descent towards Valbruna begins, once again testing the legs, before climbing gently towards the finish at Kile Alpine Resort, at km 30.6: the course's only life base, the point where the race changes character. Discover Monte Santo Lussari →

It's therefore a race that alternates technical, demanding stretches with smooth, fast sections: a balanced course, suited to those who want to run, to those who prefer alternating running and hiking, and even to those who want to tackle it entirely on foot. The technical stretches are mostly uphill, the descents are designed to flow smoothly.

A different approach

Cutoffs and maximum times are also designed with fast hiking in mind: here, the journey counts as much as the clock. Less support along the course, more self-sufficiency required — it's a choice, not a shortcoming.

The Race Hub

Race Hub · Kile Alpine Resort

Via Saisera 65, Malborghetto-Valbruna (UD): the logistical heart of the Alpe Adria Ultra Trail, deep in Val Saisera.

The Race Hub is in Val Saisera, not in the centre of Valbruna village: right in the forest, in true trail spirit.

Event parking is free, outside the resort, about 150 metres away: follow signs P3, P4, P5 and P6 — P6 is the closest, P1 and P2 are further away. Motorhomes and vans use the same car park as cars.

On the valley road, the local cooperative's private checkpoint is confirmed again for 2027 (hours and prices to be finalised): it's a service separate from the organisation — event parking stays free.
