Article 1 - DEFINITION OF RACE and ORGANISATION
The ASD SentieroUNO is a non-profit organisation that organises the races in cooperation with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and the municipalities involved. The events are organised on a non-profit basis, but with the intention of promoting the area, sport and the values of trail running. These principles form the foundation of the competitions, and the decisions of the race management are always guided by them. The competitions offer qualifying points for the ITRA and UTMB circuits and are under the aegis of CONI and AICS. These regulations were drawn up on 21 March 2024.
Article 2 - PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
In order to participate in an S1 Competitive event, it is necessary:
- Be fully aware of the length and specificity of the race and have adequate training.
- To have acquired, prior to the race, a real capacity for personal autonomy in the mountains that allows one to manage any problems related to this type of race and, in particular:
- Being able to cope independently, without outside help, with climatic conditions that can be very difficult due to altitude (night, wind, cold, fog, rain or snow);
- Being able to independently manage physical or mental complications caused by extreme fatigue, gastrointestinal disorders, muscle or joint pain, minor injuries, etc.
- Be fully aware that the role of the organisation is not to assist runners in dealing with their problems and that, in a mountain activity, safety depends above all on the ability of the runner to adapt to encountered or foreseeable problems.
- Inform and sensitise their companions about respecting places, people and the rules of the race.
- Have a valid competitive medical certificate for athletics, cross-country skiing, triathlon, cycling or swimming, for Italian citizens only and for non-Italian citizens registered in Italy with a federation or sports promotion body recognised by CONI.
Article 3 - REGISTRATION FEES
SentieroUNO events are non-profit and aim to promote the territory and the spirit of trail running. For this reason, the organisation has decided to offer maximum flexibility in registration, with a basic fee that includes the essential race services and allows additional services and options to be added, at the participant's discretion and according to his or her economic possibilities. The basic fee sets the cost of the race at the 2016 price of 1 euro per km. This fee includes 3 price increase bands. The price bands will be applied until the number of available places for each race is exhausted. The number of available places is indicated on the race page.
Article 4 - SERVICES INCLUDED IN THE BASIC REGISTRATION FEE
WHAT IS INCLUDED
- Bib
- Access to refreshment facilities
- Medical Assistance
- Finisher medal
WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED
- Insurance for cancellation, with or without reasons, by the competitor. Available in the runner's area.
- Personal insurance for post-hospitalisation accident treatment.
- Transport by shuttle bus to the starting line or after the race. Available in the runner's area.
- Additional services that can be booked on request: photos, shipment of materials, race package, technical clothing, pre- and post-race accommodation and meals, bag delivery to the start line, personal taxi service.
Article 5 - TRANSFER AND CANCELLATION BY THE COMPETITOR
The transfer of the basic fee to other S1 events or to the following year is permitted free of charge, no later than 30 days after the start of the event. There are no cash refunds, but it is possible to transfer the quota in accordance with the conditions laid down during registration. Other forms of transfer and insurance are available by subscribing to extra options.
Article 6 - SEMI-SUFFICIENCY
It is essential to respect the principle of individual competition in semi-self-sufficiency. Semi-self-sufficiency is defined as the ability to be autonomous between two refreshment posts, both in terms of food and in terms of equipment and safety, and to be able to adapt to any unforeseen or foreseeable problems (adverse weather conditions, physical problems, injuries...). This principle is based on the following rules:
- The competitor must carry all compulsory equipment for the entire duration of the race (see EQUIPMENT section). This material must be carried in the rucksack, which must remain the same throughout the course. At any time, the race officials may carry out checks on the rucksack and its contents. The competitor is obliged to submit to these checks in a cordial manner, otherwise he/she will be subject to exclusion from the race.
- The refreshment stations offer drinks and food to be consumed on the spot. The organisers only provide water or energy drinks to fill water bottles or camelbaks. On leaving a refreshment point, the runner must ensure that he or she has the necessary amount of food and drink to reach the next refreshment point.
- Personal assistance is only permitted at the refreshment stations.
- Medical care by a member of the runner's team is strictly forbidden. Only minor care, such as massage or blister treatment, is permitted, provided the runner remains seated in a chair and not lying down.
- It is prohibited to be accompanied or escorted along any part of the route by a person not registered for the race, except in the areas near the service points. A participant who is accompanied during the race violates the principle of semi-autonomy. Race officials or staff members who witness this violation are authorised to sanction the participant to ensure compliance with the rules.
Runners are not allowed to participate with a dog or any other animal, including service animals, without prior authorisation obtained after a case-by-case assessment.
Article 7 - EQUIPMENT
For safety reasons, each participant must carry all items listed in the compulsory equipment section on the webpage for their distance. All material must be carried for the entire duration of the race, even if not in use. During the race, both organised and random checks of the material will be carried out. Runners who do not have all the obligatory equipment will be subject to penalties, which may go as far as disqualification (see PENALTIES). It is important to note that the list of mandatory equipment includes essential items that each runner must carry. One should not opt for the lightest possible clothing; on the contrary, it is recommended to have clothing that offers adequate protection in the mountains and along the route against adverse weather conditions (cold, wind, heavy rain and snow), thus ensuring greater safety and better performance. If the competitor decides to use poles, he/she must carry them with him/her for the duration of the race. Starting without poles and retrieving them along the route is prohibited. It is not possible to store poles in the personal effects bag for reasons of safety and integrity of both one's own bag and those of others. If you have any questions about the mandatory material, please contact the organisation. The use of headphones to listen to music is tolerated, provided this is done safely. However, it is mandatory to remove earphones when crossing roads, as well as in the vicinity of any checkpoints and security team members.
Article 8 - WALLET
It is possible to collect the bib number of other competitors after the delegate has filled in the collection delegation fields in the competitor area. The bib must be worn, if possible, on the front part of the body (chest or stomach) and remain visible at all times throughout the race. Therefore, it must always be placed over clothing and may be fastened to a rucksack or leg to ensure perfect visibility. The names and logos of sponsors must not be changed or hidden. The bib is indispensable for access to the organisation's shuttles, refreshment stations, medical points, rest rooms, showers, bag storage and retrieval areas, etc.
Article 9 - PERSONAL BAGS
Personal bags and sacks are kept in a video-monitored area, but are managed independently by the competitors, who take care of the storage and collection of their own bags. Bags must be collected no later than 2 hours after the end of the race. The organisation undertakes to ensure the return of the bags to the finish area, provided that they have been deposited according to the instructions given. Poles may not be transported by the organisation. Complaints regarding the contents of the bags are not permitted, as these are not checked and the organisation therefore accepts no responsibility for them. It is not recommended to store valuables in the bags and it is recommended to keep toiletries and changes of clothes at your accommodation. For some distances, the option of bag delivery at the start line may be available; this service can be booked for an extra charge from your runner's area. Detailed information on times, methods and locations of bag delivery can be found on the race page.
Article 10 - SHOWERS
A shower service is available at the end of both the summer and winter competition. The organisation accepts no liability for items left in the changing rooms or cloakrooms; for hygiene and safety reasons, items left behind will be removed at the end of the race.
Article 11 - SHUTTLES
Shuttles can be reserved at the time of registration, within the deadline specified on the registration form. On the day before the start of the race, the number and reference of the allocated shuttle will be sent by email. It is not possible to purchase shuttle tickets on the day of the start. Reservations are personal and guarantee an assigned seat.
Article 12 - RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
By registering for an S1 event, participants undertake to respect the environment and natural spaces they pass through. In particular:
- It is absolutely forbidden to throw litter along the route (gel tubes, papers, organic waste, plastic packaging, etc.). Trash bins are available at refreshment posts where competitors can dispose of their waste. Race officials carry out spot checks on the route.
- Participants must keep their waste and packaging until it reaches the waste bins at the refreshment stations. The organisation invites competitors to bring a bag for carrying waste.
- It is obligatory to follow marked paths, avoiding taking shortcuts. Cutting a path causes erosion and environmental damage.
- Disposable utensils (cutlery, cups, plates) will not be distributed in the service areas and refreshment stations, to reduce the use of plastic by both runners and volunteers. Therefore, runners are asked to bring their own utensils to consume hot food at the refreshment points.
Article 13 - RESTORATIONS
The refreshment stations offer drinks and food to be consumed on site. The organisers only provide water or energy drinks to fill water bottles or water bags. On leaving a refreshment point, the runner must ensure that he/she has the necessary amount of food and drink with him/her to reach the next refreshment point. Only runners with a clearly visible bib have access to the refreshment stations. The list of available refreshment stations and products is published on the event website and in the runner's guide.
Article 14 - CHECKPOINTS/CONTROL POINTS
Checks will be carried out at all refreshment posts and at some aid stations. There will also be surprise checkpoints along the route, in addition to the refreshment and rescue points. Their location is not announced.
Article 15 - SIGNAGE AND TRACKING
To facilitate visibility at night, the flags are equipped with reflective elements that reflect the light of the headlamps. ATTENTION: If reports are no longer visible, you must retrace your steps! In respect of the environment, coloured chalk markings are used along the trails. The routes are marked, for competitions where this is required, with ribbons, arrows, paint marks or signs. It is, however, the responsibility of the competitor:
- Be aware that a large part of the routes are on paths and forest tracks where sudden detours are possible. It is therefore essential to pay attention to the signposts and, in the case of non-visible markings, go back to the last visible signpost to check that you have not missed a fork.
- Crossroads are signposted, where possible, with signs and arrows: one sign before the crossroads, one immediately after and a further sign for confirmation.
- It is recommended to always download the GPX tracks, even for races with signposts, study the route and only use the file provided by automatic email before the race. This version includes any minor last-minute changes.
- In bad weather and fog, extra care is required, as rain, snow or mist can significantly reduce the visibility of signals. This principle applies similarly to driving.
Article 16 - EMERGENCY AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
There are several aid stations along the route, connected by radio or telephone with the race headquarters (race PC). A medical control team will be active at the race PC or along the route for the duration of the event. These posts are intended to assist anyone in need of medical help. It is the responsibility of any runner in difficulty or injured to request assistance:
- Going to an aid station
- Calling the service number on the bib
- Asking another runner to alert for help
- By sending a WhatsApp message to the number indicated on the bib. Each runner is obliged to assist persons in danger and to report the need for rescue. If you are unable to contact the race control centre and only in situations of absolute emergency, you can call the emergency services directly, using the country-specific emergency numbers indicated in the runner's guide. Various factors related to the environment and the race can prolong the wait for help; therefore, safety depends on the quality of the equipment in your race pack.
Medical personnel, paramedics, rescuers and guides, as well as any individual designated by the race management, have the authority to:
- Forcing the withdrawal of any competitor deemed unfit to continue the race
- Requesting the use of mandatory material
- Evacuate runners deemed to be in danger by any means
- Directing patients to the most appropriate medical care By accepting care, the runner submits to the authority of the medical staff and accepts their decisions. Treatment by drip leads to an obligation to withdraw from the race. An infirmary will be available at the finish for runners with health problems, with assistance based on the discretion of the medical staff. It is compulsory to stay on the marked route, even to sleep, and voluntary departure from the route excludes the responsibility of the organisation.
Article 17 - MAXIMUM TIME AND HOURLY DELAYS
Time barriers (maximum times) for leaving the refreshment stations are available on the event website. Any changes will be communicated via SMS and WhatsApp. With multi-stage starts, the maximum authorised times and time barriers are the same for everyone and calculated to allow you to reach the finish line within the maximum time, including any stops. In order to continue the race, it is necessary to leave the control point before the time limit, regardless of the finish time. Runners who retire, are stopped or exceed the time barriers may not continue, their bibs will be cut off, and they will be transported to the main area by the organisation. Time barriers and time limits are specified on the event website.
Article 18 - WITHDRAWAL AND TRANSPORT TO THE BORA VILLAGE
The competitor may only withdraw from the race at a checkpoint, except in the case of an injury occurring along the route. It is necessary to inform the person in charge of the checkpoint or report the intention to withdraw via WhatsApp, as well as notifying the service number. In the event of a withdrawal in a section between two checkpoints, the runner must reach the nearest one and notify the person in charge of the withdrawal. It is essential to keep the bib number, which serves as a pass for access to shuttles, meals, infirmary, etc. Return can take place in the following ways:
- Return buses are available from some of the refreshment posts, identified with the 'bus' symbol on the maps and passage tables, to take retired competitors to the finish area.
- Competitors retiring at an aid station or a refreshment post not served by the shuttle, but in a medical condition not requiring emergency transport, must reach the nearest return point as quickly as possible and independently.
- As for refreshment or rescue points accessible by car or 4×4:
- When the checkpoint is closed, the organisers may provide for the return of withdrawn competitors, subject to the availability of vehicles.
- In the event of adverse weather conditions requiring total or partial interruption of the race, the organisers undertake to organise the competitors' return as quickly as possible.
Article 19 - REST
During the race, runners will have rest areas available at several refreshment points, as indicated on the event page. Those who have completed the race and wish to extend their stay will have to make their own accommodation arrangements.
Article 20 - CLASSIFICATIONS AND PRIZES
For each race, an overall ranking is drawn up for the men's and women's categories. The categories or positions receiving awards are detailed on the webpage dedicated to the specific distance.
Prizes not collected by the winner during the award ceremony will be awarded, in order of non-collection, to the last runners-up. It will be specified that this is a prize kindly given by the person not collecting in favour of the last to arrive. Proxies are not permitted for any reason.
The principle is that if the first should be rewarded for speed, the last should be rewarded for perseverance.
The prize is a recognition: it is awarded for merit and the recipient thanks the organisation and sponsors who made the event possible, which is why all prizes do not allow proxy withdrawals.
Article 21 - PENALTY AND DISQUALIFICATION
In the event of a violation of the rules, the race directors, marshals and refreshment/checkpoint managers have the right to immediately apply a penalty in accordance with this table:
- Cutting of the course: at the discretion of the Race Direction
- Absence of compulsory safety equipment (minimum amount of water, waterproof jacket with hood, headlamp, thermal blanket, smartphone): Disqualification
- Refusal to submit to the control of compulsory material: Disqualification
- Smartphone switched off or in aeroplane mode: 15 min penalty
- Abandonment of waste or non-use of organised toilets (voluntary act) by a competitor or his staff/assistant: 60 min penalty
- Disrespect for persons (organisation or other competitors). Note: A participant whose supporters/assistants behave in an uncivil manner or refuse to respect the decisions of the organisation will also be penalised: Disqualification
- Failure to assist a person in distress (in need of care): Disqualification
- Assistance outside the authorised zones: 60 min penalty
- Driving on the route outside the tolerance zones indicated near the refreshment posts: 15 min penalty
- Misconduct (e.g. use of means of transport, sharing of bibs, etc.): Immediate and life-long disqualification
- Breastplate not visible: 15 min penalty
- Bib worn incorrectly: 15 min penalty (during which the competitor must adjust the bib correctly)
- Dangerous behaviour (e.g. sticks with unprotected tips pointing towards other competitors or spectators): 15 min penalty
- Absence of microchips for timing: At the discretion of the Race Direction
- Failure to pass a checkpoint: At the discretion of Race Direction
- Refusal to obey an order or disrespect towards the Race Direction, a Race Marshal, a checkpoint marshal, a doctor, a rescuer or race personnel: Disqualification
- Refusal of a doping control: The competitor is treated as if he/she had tested positive for doping
- Starting from a checkpoint after the time limit: Disqualification
- Use of poles not carried from the start of the race: 60 min penalty
Article 22 - FRAUDULENT PARTICIPATION IN THE TENDER
Anyone found taking part in the race without a regular bib and registration, in addition to being held liable for damage to persons or property, including themselves, will be subject to sporting sanctions by the federal bodies and may incur in criminal penalties for the crime of 'theft' (Article 624 of the Criminal Code). Similarly, anyone who takes part with a false bib number or one assigned to another person, in addition to being held liable for any damages, will incur sporting sanctions and may be subject to criminal sanctions for the offences of 'theft' (Article 624 of the Criminal Code) and/or 'fraud' (Article 640 of the Criminal Code). The same applies to a duly registered athlete who gives his bib number to another person. Anyone guilty of fraudulent participation will also be subject to sanctions for the offence of "failure to comply with the provisions of the authorities" (Art. 650 of the Criminal Code).
Article 23 - COMPLAINTS
Any complaints concerning the rankings must be sent to the organisation by email within two hours of the competitor's arrival, accompanied by a deposit of 100 euros, which will be returned at the end of the procedure. Other complaints must be sent to the organisation by email within three days of the end of the event.
Article 24 - EXCEPTIONAL CONDITIONS
If circumstances so require, the organisation reserves the right to modify, at any time, the routes, starting times, time barriers, the location of checkpoints and refreshments, as well as all aspects aimed at the smooth running of the races. In the event of force majeure, particularly unfavourable weather conditions or any other circumstances that may compromise the safety of participants, the organisation reserves the right to:
- Changing the departure time
- Modifying Time Barriers
- Postponing the departure date
- Adapting the route of competitions
- Cancelling a race before or after the start of the event
- Interrupting a Race Already Started
Article 25 - IMAGE RIGHTS
All participants expressly renounce any claim to their image rights during the event, and they also renounce any form of recourse against the Organisation and its partners for the use of their image. Only the organisation may grant image rights to the media, exclusively through appropriate documentation. S1 TRAIL, the Bora Race and S1 are registered trademarks. Any communication relating to the event or the use of images of the event must respect the name of the event, the registered trademarks and must be officially authorised by the organisation.
Article 26 - PERSONAL SPONSORS
Sponsored runners or runners using third-party branding for promotional purposes must limit the use of such branding to their own clothing and equipment during the competition. No other objects such as flags, banners or posters may be carried along the race route without specific written authorisation from the race management. Violations of this rule may result in penalties determined at the discretion of the race directors.
Article 27 - POLITICAL EXPRESSION
Proclaiming, displaying or exhibiting political or religious messages, as well as images related to them, is prohibited during the event.
Article 28 - INSURANCE
The organiser has taken out liability insurance for the entire duration of the event. This insurance covers the financial consequences of the liability of the organiser, its employees and participants. In addition, an additional policy was taken out for the first aid of competitors, covering medical expenses up to hospitalisation and first aid.
Article 29 - PROTECTION OF PERSONAL DATA
In accordance with the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR EU 2016/679), all participants have the right to access and correct data concerning them. Data is collected during registration for one of ASD SentieroUNO's races for organisational purposes, in particular to identify each individual participant in order to provide him/her with information regarding his/her participation before, during or after the event. All runners' data is stored for a period of 10 years, renewable with each registration, in line with the legal retention period of the medical certificate of fitness for athletics or the sports licence. After this 10-year period, and without the participant's explicit consent, all data will be deleted except surname, first name, date of birth, gender and nationality in order to maintain the rankings. Participants can access their personal data via their reserved space, accessible via the registration link or by e-mail at info@s1trail.com. Any request for access to or modification of personal data will be processed as quickly as possible, within a maximum of 1 month after receipt of the request.
Article 30 - COMPLAINTS
Any complaints arising from a participant's registration for one of ASD SentieroUNO's races should be sent to info@s1trail.com.
