The Julian Alps, no shortcuts
No connector stretches, no touristy areas: just the untouched heart of the Julian Alps, run for hours in near-solitude.
01 A route, not a connection
Big international events often start from an urban setting: towns, resorts, tourist hubs. To reach the best parts of the course, you need long connector stretches — cycle paths, roads, trails laid down just to join two points of interest, not because they're beautiful to run.
Alpe Adria Ultra Trail is born, and takes place, entirely in the heart of the Julian Alps, in a non-touristic area: from Kile Alpine Resort, in Val Saisera, every kilometre of our races is a real trail, ridge or forest track. No stretch is there just to join two points: run with us and you're always inside the territory, never skirting around it.
02 Hours of silence, not of crowds
The Julian Alps we cross aren't a crowded tourist destination: they're wild terrain, on the border between Italy, Austria and Slovenia, where for hours a competitor meets only other competitors — no hikers, no groups, no lift stations. It's a different experience from a mass-participation race: the solitude of real mountains, not the spectacle of a crowd.
«For hours you'll be alone with the other competitors, in areas where you won't meet a single hiker. This isn't a race like the others: it's the Julian Alps, unfiltered.»
03 A solid organisation
Alpe Adria Ultra Trail is organised by ASD SentieroUNO, a body with fifteen years of experience organising mountain running events: the same team behind the Corsa della Bora and Sardon Run. Professional staff, safety, rescue and logistics aren't an afterthought: they're the craft of an organisation that's been running mountain races for three lustrums.
04 The territory, in brief
The Julian Alps are the easternmost mountain range of the Alps, shared between Italy, Austria and Slovenia. Our races move between Val Saisera and Val Dogna, at the foot of Jôf di Montasio (2,754 m, the highest peak of the range on the Italian side) and Mangart, with views of Monte Santo di Lussari. A territory run twice a year: in February, on snow, and in June, when the larches turn green — the same mountain, lived on two different planets.
